Overview of Lincoln Square

You can relish small town comfort without leaving the big city when you live in a Lincoln Square apartment. This community area of Chicago has somehow managed to preserve its placid main street atmosphere. Long frequented German restaurants, independent businesses, and family-friendly festivals keep Lincoln Square quiet—but not comatose.

Lincoln Square is a residential area that locals say one need never leave. The eponymous square is where you’ll find restaurants and shops, all easy to walk between. This community area includes the neighborhoods of Ravenswood Manor, Ravenswood Gardens, Ravenswood, Bowmanville, and Budlong Woods.

Lincoln Square Lifestyle and Entertainment

Lawrence, Western, and Lincoln avenues meet at the commercial center of Lincoln Square. There you’ll find a variety of restaurants and shops. A few standouts remain from the German days. Visit the Chicago Brauhaus or the Lutz Café & Bakery for a taste of the old world. You’ll find corner bars and cute boutiques in Lincoln Square, as well as a twice-weekly farmers market.

This part of Chicago is excellent for those looking to spend time outdoors. To the west is Ronan Park and River Park, where you’ll find a pool, a dog run, sports fields, and trails. To the east is Winnemac Park with a playground, a stadium, and plenty of space. The lakefront isn’t far off, either.

Lincoln Square Info and the Rental Market

This quieter corner of Chicago primarily attracts well-off young families and empty nesters. Rental options in Lincoln Square are mostly single-family homes and smaller apartment buildings. While your costs will depend on which section of the community area you’re looking in, expect to pay around $1,200 a month in rent here.

Commuting from Lincoln Square isn’t bad. The Brown Line of the ‘L’ stops at stations off Eastwood Avenue. You can also jump on the Union Pacific / North Line of the Metra commuter rail at Ravenswood Station.

Lincoln Square Resources

Lincoln Square falls within two Chicago City Council wards—the 40th and the 47th. You’ll find the Sulzer Regional Branch of the Chicago Public Library on Lincoln Avenue. There’s a United States Post Office on Lawrence Avenue. There are three hospitals in the neighborhood, including the Swedish Covenant Hospital and Methodist Chicago Hospital.
