#Low Income Public Housing - Housing Authority of the County of DeKalb Low Income Public HousingWhat is Pubic Housing? Public Housing was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Public Housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single family houses to apartments. There are approximately 1.3 million households living in public housing units, managed by some 3,300 HAs. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administers federal aid to local housing agencies (HAs) that manage the housing for residents at rents they can afford. Under the Public Housing Program, The Housing Authority of the County of DeKalb serves as owner and manager of one, two, and three bedroom units in Sycamore and DeKalb, Illinois. Residents of Public Housing lease directly from the housing authority and pay affordable rents based on approximately 30% of their adjusted household income. Laundry facilities or individual laundry hookups are provided at all our properties. Some complexes have playgrounds, community room, computer lab, and others have community gardens. We provide excellent maintenance for all of our housing and on-site managers at two of our properties. Cats and dogs weighing 25 pounds or less (when considered full grown) are welcome in our housing with an approved Pet Application and a $150.00 deposit.
