I stayed in this apartment over the course of 6 months and it was fantastic. The location is superb and the neighbourhood is very friendly and safe. The owner, whom I shared the floor with alongside his sister and another roommate were very generous, hospitable, clean, and quiet.

I really enjoyed my stay in this apartment in Sunnyside. All the roommates were very welcoming, but also respectful of my privacy. The landlord cleans the entire apartment once a week. Even my room, which surprised me. So everything is very clean. I could always use the kitchen when I needed to and it is stocked with everything you may need. Unfortunately the oven is broken, but other than that I had no problems.
My room was perfect for a 6 month stay. It has a single bed, a night desk, a big dresser as well as a closet, a desk with a chair, an extra chair, a television, and even a full-length mirror. The desk was very useful for me because I sometimes worked from home.
Wireless and heating were included in the rent, which was great over the winter. Additionally, the landlord cleaned my sheets and towel regularly, which I thought was really nice and spared me an extra trip to the laundry.
I gave one less star for location and quiet/loud. You can hear the cars on the interstate from the room. It honestly never bothered me because I didn't think it was loud and I never perceived it as noise, but I thought it should be mentioned. For location it's a bit tricky: For me it was perfect because I could take the 7 to Grand Central and walk to work from there. And you can find everything you need on the way from/to the subway: cheap groceries, 99 Cent stores, bank. But it is at least a 10 min walk to the subway and until you are on the subway it is usually more like 15 min. I really liked the neighborhood, though. I always felt very safe and Sunnyside is definitely worth a visit because of its multicultural environment and great restaurants.
I would definitely recommend renting this room and I wish the landlord and his family all the best.

The owner ensured us that the oven has been fixed and that there are currently two ovens and three microwaves in the apartment.

The room I rented was very nice. The landlord made me feel right at home. When I first moved to New York he gave me a lot of advice such as buses, where to get groceries from, and laundry. He also sat down and talked with my parents when they came to visit me, which I greatly appreciated. He was kind enough to allow my sister to stay with me for a few days. But you must ask permission which is totally understandable, since it is his home :)

The only downside of the apartment was the location. It is a bit of a walk from the subway, but there is a bus stop nearby. The interstate is very close and can get a little loud. The dog can also be very loud in the morning when the landlord leaves, but the dog was very sweet and this won't bother you if you wake up at a decent time. I like to sleep in sometimes so this won't bother most people.

Overall I had no problems staying here. The landlord was very welcoming. He cleans the apartment every week, provides a clean towel, and cooks a lot too!

Bianca, thank you for your review, it was a pleasure meeting you. I know the apartment is 5 blocks from the subway but as you said there is a bus stop nearby so location shouldn't really be a problem.

And however the interstate is very close and can get a little loud is pretty quiet at night and unfortunately out of my control.

Well, I have good memories of this apartment because my roommate was wonderful, the rooms are really comfortable, the apartment is clean, immaculate even (the owner being an extreme neat freak), the apartment is about 5 minutes away from the shops which is really good and convenient (laundry, supermarket, everything's there).

As for the value for the price, I believe I made a good deal as the area is not an issue (still, avoid wandering around on your own at night if you're a girl) and it is a very quiet neighborhood.

However, I'd point out two negatives: it is a family house so the owner is very fussy regarding the people you bring home, he doesn't really like you to invite friends for the evening and it is IMPOSSIBLE to have your boy/girlfriend spend the night in your bedroom, even though you pay for the room he won't accept or else he'll keep your deposit (as this was the case for me).

Secondly, there is a little dog in this apartment; she's certainly really cute and affectionate but can be noisy in the morning as the owner works overnight, so when he leaves the dog is sad and can let you know that.

This apartment is located in a primarily residential neighborhood in Sunnyside, Queens, New York. The owner apologized if there was an issue with the dog, but said that the dog is happy and there have very rarely been problems with the dog being left at night.

The owner does allow tenants to have guests, but not continuously or on a regular basis. The rent is calculated for the people on the contract only.
