About the Scholarship

At The Renters Guide Albany, we believe that education of the youth of America is of the utmost importance. In addition to helping people find the perfect apartment home for their needs, we want to help those aspiring to achieve their dreams of a college education. For current and future college students, many will make the choice to live off campus, many of which will be living in their very first apartment. We are proud to offer a scholarship to help make college a little more affordable for these students.

To enter this scholarship contest, please review the eligibility requirements and submission rules then use the form below to submit your entry. Submissions must be received by July 31st, 2016. The $500 scholarship award will be provided to the writer of the best essay, as decided by our judges.

Off-Campus Student Scholarship Official Rules

To apply to win the $500 Scholarship applicants must submit a 400-500 word essay on how living off campus has changed your college experience for the better. You can include things such as: How you made the choice to live off campus, what you found challenging and how this has helped you develop skills that you would not have if you did live on campus. All essays must be properly submitted using the form below no later than July 31, 2016.

All applicants must be US Citizens or permanent legal residents of the United States and be a commuter/living off campus. Applicants must also be attending an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in 2016 or in an accredited graduate school program, who will continue a full-time enrollment during the entirety of the 2016-2017 academic year.

Any winner will need to provide proof in the form of a letter from the institution of attendance prior to the payment of the scholarship. This can be in the form of a Transcript, Enrollment Verification Document or an Official Letter from the institution on letter head.

Description of Funds

One applicant will receive a one-time $500 scholarship payable (via US mail or Direct Deposit via PayPal) to the accredited university or directly to the winner as designated by the applicant after the application deadline.

Following the July 31, 2016 deadline, the student recipient will be chosen by our judges after reviewing all valid entries received prior to the deadline. Essay entries will be judged on writing quality, creativeness, insight and ability to showcase personal growth from experiences. The recipient will be announced 30 days after the entry deadline has passed. The winning student will be listed on http://www.rentersguidealbany.com/off-campus-scholarship and will be notified via email at the email address provided by the recipient. If the recipient is disqualified or fails to reply to contact attempts within 48 hrs of being notified of the results, we reserve the right to determine an alternate winner or not to award the scholarship.

Approved Colleges and Universities

The institution of attendance by each applicant must be accredited and listed on the official website of the US Department of Education at http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.aspx .
