The perfect refrigerator for a tiny kitchen or small household is either the compact mini refrigerator or the mid-sized refrigerator.

If you’re looking for a household refrigerator for one, two or three people you re probably best off taking a look at mid-sized refrigerators.  While the compact refrigerator is of great use for holding beverages and snacks in an office or for food storage in a small RV, a mid-sized refrigerator better suits the requirements of a an apartment, tiny house or RV dweller.

Here are some tips that might help deciding which refrigerator is most perfect for your kitchen.

When you measure the space in your kitchen for the refrigerator, be aware that sometimes the hinged side of the refrigerator door may pivot to the side half an inch beyond the width of the unit when it is opened.  Also be aware that many refrigerators need a little open space in the rear for proper ventilation.  The published measurements of refrigerators are always geared toward the exterior size.

Another very important point when you try to find your perfect refrigerator is to find the one that fits your cooking and eating habits the best.  Do you like to stack your refrigerator with frozen food?  Then you might be more interested in a refrigerator with a bigger freezer section.  Or are you rather the fresh-food-type?  In this case you might choose a refrigerator with smaller freezer compartments and bigger refrigerator space.

Some mid-sized refrigerators are Energy Star certified.  You might be eligible for a rebate from your local power company when you buy an Energy Star rated refrigerator.  This rebate can be around $100 and can make a difference when you choose your favorite refrigerator.

Many buyers like bottom freezer refrigerators.  They find it very convenient to open the door and have the shelves at eye height.  Some refrigerators are called two-door-refrigerators.  Sometimes this means that it has a second door for the freezer section and it’s actually not a two-door-refrigerator with a separate door for the freezer.
