Buckhead has a population of over 74,000, while Atlanta consists of over 425,000 people.

More than 75 percent of Buckhead’s residents are white, many of whom are educated and well-to-do. Families enjoy the rural atmosphere, while young professionals love Buckhead’s city-like vibrancy due to its proximity to urban Atlanta. Buckhead dwellers work all over the metro Atlanta area, with the area’s top employers being Delta Airlines, Wal-Mart and DeKalb County Schools.

Buckhead itself contains more than 40 distinct neighborhoods, including wealthy Brookhaven with its country club and golf course, and Collier Hills, a residential area with a bloody history—a Civil War battle was fought here. Lindbergh and Paces blend commercial and residential real estate, with home prices starting around the $5 million mark. Like Atlanta, you’ll most likely need a car in Buckhead. Atlanta is infamous for its traffic, and the sprawling city utilizes a carpool lane on the highway in an attempt to reduce congestion. However, there is public transport—the MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) rail and bus—that many utilize. Among its many stops, MARTA can take Buckhead dwellers to downtown Atlanta as well as the airport.

Shopping, shopping and more shopping is a popular activity at Lenox Square and Phipps Square in Buckhead. Head to Peachtree Road and the Andrews Entertainment District for nightlife, and boutiques and restaurants are abundant throughout the area. Folks also love Charlie Loudermilk Park and the Buckhead Theatre in Buckhead Village.
