About Fort Worth, TX

Texas Wesleyan University

Focusing on career preparation, degrees from Texas Wesleyan University are highly regarded by employers that want staff that are as independent as possible from day one. The university has just over 3,000 students, but a notable population of table tennis players!

Fort Worth and the Metroplex

All things Southern and all things Western are celebrated in Fort Worth. If you're new to the area, twice daily cattle drives will be an eye-opener, and the Tarantula train and the Stockyards National district will make you want to chew tobacky and dig in your spurs!

Fort Worth also has an artistic and cultural side, with plenty of musical and performance venues, and museums like the Kimbell and Science and History complementing Western style places like the Texas Cowgirl museum!

Why Not Walk Around Wesleyan?

Texas is well known as one of the least walkable states - the Metroplex area sees housing and apartments spread over geographically broad areas, and most facilities only accessible by car. A 'somewhat walkable' designation for the area around Texas Wesleyan is a pleasant surprise, then. Under a half a mile walk will get you to restaurants, coffee shops, bars, grocery stores and parks from TWU.

Finding Neighborhoods in Fort Worth

The Glenwood Triangle, Morningside and Mitchell Boulevard neighborhoods are the closest to TWU, and best for minimizing your daily car use. Each of these neighborhoods has similar apartment prices and population densities, with a lovely spacious 2,000 people per square mile in each area. Morningside is the larger area, and may be easier to find housing options in.

Fort Worth apartments are very well priced - it is one of the cheaper areas in the Metroplex. There is enormous choice of housing under $500 per month, and many of the apartments are located within five miles of school. If you are looking to share the cost of housing, there are also quite a few two bedroom places available from $700 and up.

Drinking and Eating Around Fort Worth

Fort Worth is a big city, and while Texas is known more for oil and horses than fine dining, there are some pleasant surprises within a short distance of school. Smokey's Ribs and Hua Ying Lin are favorites, and Papa John's Pizza and Fried Rice King offer quick and tasty alternatives to the traditional fast food.

The best nightlife options are closer to Fort Worth city center than your school - Club Freestyle, Club GLT, B&B Blues Room and Booze Fighters MC are all along the same strip, and have given many a student a big, if not easy to remember, night out!

TCU Waits 4 U!

Don your purple and white caps folks, we're goin' to Texas Christian University. a place where leaders are born. A cowboy hat might come in handy, since TCU is located a mere five miles from Fort Worth, a historical Wild West city. But Texas ain't all about gun-totin' and cow-wranglin'. No sir, here at Texas Christian University they're all about communication and community. Community service and volunteering are big parts of TCU student's lives; you'll find yourself frequenting the Center for Community Involvement & Service-Learning as much as you do the school cafeteria (well, almost). There's also no lack of community on campus, with 40% of the student body involved in Greek life.

Where the Horned Frogs Get Hoppin'

Now that you're a horned frog you'll need a home. Lucky for you there are lots of ponds (a.k.a spiffy apartment complexes) to choose from. Several are within hollerin' distance of TCU, and are likely to include things like internet cafes, gaming rooms, and swimming pools. Although some listings farther off—a short drive away—they often offer extra amenities, or lower rents, to make up for it. For getting to downtown Fort Worth, take the Trinity Railway Express. The T bus can also get you to pretty much anywhere you wanna go. Buses even have handy-dandy racks on the front, so you can take your bike along. Also, when you’re coming back late from a nice on the town, cabs are always available.

Not Too Big, Not Too Small

Fort Worth is like Goldilocks' chair—not too big, nor too small, but juuust right. You avoid the vulgarity of urban living (i.e. homeless men peeing on street corners) as well an the banality of small town living (i.e. bars that close by 10 p.m.). It is also the 5th largest city in Texas and the 17th in the country. Take in some culture at Kimbell Art Museum or Bass Performance Hall. If you're into the city nitty-gritty, plan a trip to nearby Dallas and check out some music at the Galaxy Club. Before that, swing by City Tavern and grab a beer. On Tuesdays, pints are $3!
