Frisco, Texas, is one of the fastest growing suburbs in North Dallas.

Like its southern neighbor Plano in the 1980s, Frisco is growing so rapidly that it's been a challenge for the city to keep up with the growth. Frisco's population has more than tripled since 2000. Confirming its reputation as a bedroom community, nearly one-third of that population is under the age of 18.

Most new developments in Frisco have been retail and single-family homes. There's less emphasis on growing local businesses or multi-family properties. Renter-occupied housing makes up less than 20 percent of all available housing in town. Hence Frisco's reputation as a "the place to go shopping."

There is over 8 million square feet of retail and dining in Frisco, including IKEA, Stonebriar Centre mall, and Sam Moon Trading Company. Stonebriar Centre, and its satellites, are the major retail areas at the south end of town, fronting the busy 121 tollway, which shuttles drivers back and forth from Grapevine to McKinney. Stonebriar mall is the prototypical "family mall," with lots of stores and activities to entertain to the kiddos: The Cheesecake Factory, Lego Store, and California Pizza Kitchen.

The city of Frisco manages 43 parks totaling 1,369 acres that are open from sunup to sundown. Warren Sports Complex, part of the park system, has seven lighted football/soccer fields, four baseball/softball fields, two lighted basketball courts, two tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, playgrounds, and a fully stocked eight-acre pond.

The Frisco Athletic Center, with more than 100,000 square feet, includes indoor-outdoor aquatic centers. It also has two full-size gyms, aerobics studios, a youth recreation Zone (foosball, ping-pong, air hockey, Wii), Fun Club childcare, and Cafe' Frisco, with drinks, smoothies, salads, and sandwiches. The Aquatic Centers also has water slides, with nicknames like Big Blue, Green Gusher, and Pipeline.

Frisco Square is an urban live-work-play environment featuring apartments and retail under one roof. Restaurants include Double Dip Frozen Custard and Love, Peace & Popcorn. Frisco Square is within walking distance of Pizza Hut Park, home of FC Dallas, the local Major League Soccer team. (FC stands for "football club," after many clubs in Europe.) FC Dallas plays its games every Saturday during baseball season. Every summer, Frisco Square shows family films, like SpongeBob SquarePants and Neverending Story, on a giant outdoor inflatable movie screen. Admission is free for all residents.

Frisco is served by three independent school districts, Frisco, Lewisville, and Prosper.

It's also home to the Preston Ridge Campus of Collin College.

The Dallas Stars call Frisco home, with their corporate offices and practice facilities located adjacent to the mall. FC Dallas play at Pizza Hut Park, where a variety of concerts, football games and national and international soccer games also take place. The Frisco RoughRiders, AA Affiliate of the Texas Rangers, play at Dr Pepper Ballpark, and the NAHL Texas Tornado Hockey team and NBA D League team Texas Legends play at Dr Pepper Arena.

Dr Pepper Ballpark is particularly colorful during baseball season; the stadium has a fireworks show at the end of every home game, which can be seen for miles around.
