Highland Oaks Apartments - Apartments - Virginia Highland - Atlanta, GA - Yelp For me, Highland Oaks Apartments was generally a positive experience. The tenants are young professionals who are mostly quiet and responsible. The maintenance staff is diligent as well as prompt (0-2 days to get things fixed). The off-street parking was big enough, and for the rare times when it was filled there was an overflow area in the back that worked well enough. We were there about 2 years and during that time I never heard of a crime of any type happening on the premises or in the parking lot. I m about to move out of town, so I d like to chime in, especially since Highland Oaks hasn t received a review in a while. I have lived here for almost 2 years now. And overall, I have enjoyed living here enough to have renewed my lease last year. While there are some glaring problems (which I ll go into below), they are not enough to make me want to desperately get out of here. Pros: --As others have mentioned, this is a PRIME location. A short walk from the Highland bars/restaurants, the beltline (which connects to Piedmont Park, Trader Joes, the movie theater, etc), Kroger, Home Depot, Whole foods, Green s liquor (cheapest booze ever), and my favorite, Chipotle. This is probably the most attractive part of living here. --The neighbors are great: quiet, considerate, mostly young professionals and students. In 2 years, I ve heard loud blasting music exactly one time. --The maintenance staff has been very responsive to any of our requests. Many times they were able to send maintenance workers within several hours of our call. --The neighborhood is really safe and gives a very suburban feel in the middle of a big city. --Our rent did increase this year, but not by very much. only by $30 (from $1395 to $1425 for a 2/2) which is about the rate of inflation anyway. Cons: This building was built in the 1920 s. And while it has been renovated a few times, it has a lot of issues. --We have had somewhat of a bug problem, enough to the point where we have been taping up every single hole and crack we could find. A lot of cockroaches, especially during the summer months where we could see up to several every day. Though I do like to note that we live on the ground floor, which I feel like attracts more bugs. --The walls and the windows are paper thin, which means you can hear everything going on around you. I can even hear my upstairs neighbor s coffee machine brewing coffee in the morning. In addition, this means poor insulation and high electric bills. --I d like to describe an incident last month which really freaked me out. I normally don t look up at the ceiling in my closet (why would I look up there anyway?). But for some reason I looked up, and there was a huge giant f***ing colony of mushrooms growing from my closet ceiling. WTF. I had no idea how long it has been growing there or what cause it to grow from that location. I called Braden Fellman, and luckily they were able to send a guy down within 3 hours to remove the growth. Even more disturbingly, the maintenance guy said something along the lines of Oh yeah, that happens all the time. Was this review ?
