SoHo, New York Vacation RentalsSoHo. which stands for "South of Houston", is located between Houston and Canal Streets to the west of Mott Street. SoHo was once a center for artists who used the cheap loft spaces as studios and galleries. In the 60's the price of real estate went up in the area as demand increased which forced many of the artists to move out of SoHo to make room for the ultra trendy clothing stores, boutiques and restaurants that populate the neighborhood today. The vacation rentals that you find in SoHo are largely lofts or small apartments. There are a few museums in the SoHo area. The Guggenheim Museum has a small SoHo branch. The New York City Fire Museum gives you a historic view on how fire fighting has changed through the years in New York ; it includes equipment, pictures and even some old fire engines. The Alternative Museum created in the 70's is all about art with a conscience, art that is for the betterment of people, the space is also used for world music concerts and discussion boards. SoHo is a favorite area to visit for tourists but has a limited selection of housing due to its small size and few apartment buildings. The vacation rental apartments that are available include loft spaces and studios.
