SAN FRANCISCO Jeeves, the slightly chubby and balding English butler, isn’t the kind of image that e-commerce conglomerate InterActiveCorp wants representing the Ask Jeeves search engine, according to IAC Chairman Barry Diller. His New York-based company bought Ask Jeeves for $2.3 billion in July.

Speaking at a Goldman Sachs investor conference last week, Diller announced that his company intends to drop Jeeves as a mascot and shorten the search site’s name to Ask or Ask.com.

“Not that I don’t like that fat butler,” Diller said, according to a transcript provided by Thomson Financial.

I lived at this complex for two years and would have lived there longer if I stayed in Phoenix.

The staff has always been great. Very friendly every time I came in and were prompt with any maintenance issues. I lost my wallet around the complex at one point and they were decent enough to get it back to me.They didn t screw me over on my deposit like almost every other landlord has done to me in the past. In fact, they have kindly ordered new deposit refund checks for me (twice) after they were lost (once by me and once by my inept Chicago post office branch).

At the time I worked downtown so the proximity to the light rail was ideal. It s also in a very convenient location by a Frys and an LA Fitness. There are dozens of amazing restaurants and bars nearby which was the most pleasant surprise when I moved there. It s a good place to be.

The building is very secure and people can t just come and go they have to have a key to get in the elevator.  The building also requires a key access after hours.  There are all types of people that reside in the building. There are only 2 issues I have, the parking garage is detached from the building and the walk space is not very well lit at night from the garage to the door. The other issue is the hall way leading to the apartments smell nauseating at times, it s a combination of smoke and food, I dread getting off the elevator at times.

Cerberus Capital Management is buying about 4,200 U.S. houses, expanding its foray into home rentals in the industry’s largest bulk purchase.

The investment firm plans to acquire the properties from BLT Homes, a rental company owned by closely held Building Land Technology, according to three people with knowledge of the transaction. The houses are mostly in Midwest cities such as Indianapolis and Chicago, as well as in Florida, said the people, who asked not to be named because the deal is private.

The purchase will make Cerberus one of the top 10 owners of U.S. houses as the institutional rental industry built from the housing crisis consolidates. Large landlords are seeking economies of scale by acquiring bulk portfolios, while smaller companies are taking advantage of gains in real estate values to sell as it gets harder to compete.
