Silver Spring is a city in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. The oldest, southernmost and urbanized part of the town is a major business hub which lies at the north apex of Washington, D.C. and it is a popular town because recently, it has undergone a significant development, with the addition of major residential, retail, and office structures.

Silver Spring has a population of 71,452 people, with more than 70% in the working class. It is one of the fastest growing areas in the country, even though it has a median cost of home of $355,000. The cost of living is 38% higher than the average in the country. However, the unemployment rate is one of the lowest at 4%, while the US average is 6.3%, thanks to the presence of notable companies with world headquarters, some of which are Discovery Communications, the NOAA headquarters, the AFI Silver Theatre, the national headquarters of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and the headquarters of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Silver Spring also boasts of some of the largest public libraries in the country. Some of them are the downtown's Silver Spring, Marilyn J. Praisner, Wheaton and White Oak.

Silver Spring Main Transportation System

In Silver Spring, the major roads are mostly 3 to 5-lane highways, and it is possible to reach the Capital Beltway from Colesville Road (US 29), Georgia Avenue (MD 97), and New Hampshire Avenue (MD 650). The Intercounty Connector (ICC) is a new interchange making transportation in Silver Spring to be very good. ICC has interchanges at Layhill Road (MD 182), Georgia Avenue, Columbia Pike, New Hampshire Avenue and a part at Briggs Chaney Road. The MARC also helps a lot in making transportation to be smooth and cheap for the thousands of residents and visitors. In addition to the MARC train stopping at the nearby Kensington station, Silver Spring also has the Washington Metrorail's Forest Glen station.

Silver Spring Housing

The Central Business District (CBD) of Silver Spring occupies 7,254,729 square feet of office space, 17.6 acres of parkland and 5216 dwelling units. Of the 31,425 housing units in the town, more than 80% were built before 2010. However, most of the ones built before 1980 still look very new because of recent renovation projects carried out on many of them in recent years. Only 29% of the units have a bedroom, while others have at least 2 bedrooms, ideal for families of at least 4 people.
