Why Arlington, VA Could be Your Next Hometown

Arlington lies just across the Potomac River from central Washington DC. It is considered one of the premiere bedroom communities for more reasons than just convenience to the Nation's Capital. It includes some areas such as the villages of Crystal City and Rosslyn, which are rated as one of the most walkable in the world. The cost of living is high, but it is worth it. Residents have access to the capital, and their own thriving city full of restaurants, boutique shops, and homes all set on tree-lined streets.

General Information

One of the reasons that many people come to love living in the Arlington Area is that the climate is mild, but also has four distinct seasons. Summer is warm, with only July reaching humid heights. Winter is cold, with January being striking but it doesn't really get too bad. Since many people use the Metro to commute, as long as you are dressed seasonably you will be comfortable year round.

City Amenities

Besides have some of the hottest restaurants and boutiques around, Arlington are also known for its spacious bike paths. This is a fit city and parks and paths are full when the weather is good. You are close to major attractions such as Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon Trail and the Signature Theater. It is well served by public transportation, so getting around is easy.

Transportation Information

While many residents do own private cars and access to the Beltways is easy from the Arlington neighborhoods, traffic in DC is a frequent nightmare. Arlington residents most often choose the public Metro services instead. You also have easy access to the Virginia Railway Commuter Rail, there are ample commuter bike lanes, and Ronald Reagan Airport is within easy reach too.

The Neighborhoods

The tranquil tree lined streets of Arlington contain a mix of private homes, multi-story residences, and condominium complexes. All of them are bound by the neighborhood zoning agreements to maintain a cohesive appearance, which is part of what gives the area is charm. Each neighborhood is well served by metro stops and has its own micro village and distinct flair.

Clarendon/Courthouse - This is one of the most eclectic and affordable of the Arlington neighborhoods. It takes its name from the famous courthouse that still does its business in the area. The daytime is all business and hustle, and at night it sports some of the trendiest locations in the city for entertainment and dining. It is the closest thing you will find to downtown living in the area.

Arlington Ridge - Arlington Ridge was built during the boom times of the 20s and 30s and the wide tree lined streets and stately homes define the area. There are some luxury complexes located here, but they are well disguised. This is one of the premiere, and most costly bedroom communities that serve the Pentagon area.

Crystal City - Rated as one of the most walkable urban villages in the world, this is one of the most unique areas to choose to live in. It is less bedroom community than work/live areas. There is a blend of businesses and housing that are also more affordable than other areas. It also features an underground shopping mall and many of the business addresses are topped with residential communities with private restaurants and fitness facilities.

Lyons Village - This small neighborhood acts as a bridge between Clarendon and Ballston. It features most single family homes with larger plat sizes that are more characteristic of the 20s when their construction was done. This area is often populated with joggers and cyclists who love the tranquil peace of its wide streets. In recent years, blended townhouses and small apartment complexes have been built in Lyons Village to allow for a greater range of living opportunities.
