Hoboken Offers Free Parking For Holiday ShoppersFriday, Dec 4, 2015 To encourage local shopping this holiday season, the City of Hoboken is offering up to 4 hours of free garage parking in municipal garages B (28 2nd St), D (215 Hudson St), and Midtown (371 4th St) every Saturday and Sunday from December 5, 2015 through January 3, 2016 and every day from December 21 through December 25 for visitors who come to Hoboken to shop or dine. Parking meters are free on Sundays. “Hoboken is a great place to shop, dine, and enjoy this holiday season,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer. “There are so many ways to get here by public transportation, and for those who drive, we have convenient options including valet parking and free garages for holiday shoppers.” As another convenient parking option, valet parking is available year-round for a flat rate of $15 on Fridays (7pm-3am), Saturdays (11am-3am), and Sundays (11am-8pm) at three locations: 58 3rd Street (between Washington St & Hudson St), 76 River Street, and 525 Sinatra Drive. Repaving of Observer Highway Scheduled to Begin Tuesday, December 8thThursday, Dec 3, 2015 Construction work to mill and pave Observer Highway will begin on or about Tuesday, December 8th, 2015. The roadway will be repaved from Hudson Street to the firehouse east of Madison Street. A portion of Henderson Street will also be repaved as part of the project. Milling is expected to take 3 to 5 days, followed by 3 to 5 days for paving, weather permitting. To expedite the project and minimize traffic disruptions, the City Council has authorized work to occur until 8:00pm as well as on Saturdays, if necessary. All efforts will be taken to maintain traffic during construction and minimize the most disruptive work during peak commuting hours, however drivers are urged to consider alternate routes if possible since temporary closures will be required during paving operations. Officers from the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, Hoboken Police Department, and New Jersey Transit Police will be on hand to direct traffic. Vehicles parked on Vezzetti Way must be moved by Monday, December 7 th at 8:00am so that construction can proceed. In the case that detours are needed to accommodate buses and other large vehicles, there will be no parking permitted starting on Tuesday, December 8 th along the following streets:
Funding for the Observer Highway project is provided through a $2 million Congressional earmark. Community Invited to Rebuild by Design Concept Presentation Public MeetingWednesday, Dec 2, 2015
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will hold a public meeting to solicit input on the proposed concepts for the Rebuild by Design Hudson River: Resist, Delay, Store, Discharge Project. The meeting is open to all members of the public and will take place on Thursday, December 10, 2015 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the Wallace Elementary School gymnasium, located at 1100 Willow Avenue in Hoboken. “I hope everyone will come and join this important discussion about how to best protect our City from future severe storms while also preserving access to our treasured waterfront,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer. The project is a comprehensive urban water management strategy that will be implemented through $230 million in funding awarded through the Rebuild by Design competition. The Rebuild by Design team will introduce five concepts for the community to consider and provide feedback on at the meeting. Come learn about how the proposed concepts were evaluated based on the purpose and need, benefits to the community, and potential impacts to the environment.
