Recommended Reviews for Kings and Queens Apartments

Update to my review: So the place has become a star better than it previously was, especially since that Bedroom of Death has been repaired; the super has fixed my intercom; and I've not seen a mouse in the house at all, in spite of having neighbors I can only affectionately described as pigs. While the post-Sandy repairs continue, the place is actually starting to look like someone gives a damn. However, getting the super is still an exercise in patience, but when he or his team shows up, they fix shit and shit seems to stay fixed. The stealers of boxes left in mailrooms still live in the building, so if you're dumb enough to not have your packages rerouted to a UPS/FedEx pickup or to have USPS leave the package at your door instead of in the mailroom, then you're rich enough to replace the shit that WILL be stolen. Say, a pair of headphones. Or filter replacements. Or a corset. And don't expect help to get it back - it's your dumb-ass fault for not rerouting your package, as I've learned.

But if you enjoy not having maintenance respond to critical needs - if you like living in a building with 100 open violations, including lack of heat, pests, mold, and broken pipes - if you like having water drip from your ceilings and walls and having your requests for service ignored even when you call, email, and write letters - then life at these apartments are for you! Oh, did I forget that heat seems to be optional? Or that you can have heat but have your rooms sweat like they've been performing in the Olympics because of poor insulation? And again, that you'll get little or NO response from maintenance or the building manager?

I'm in a building where the previous super quit (and I'm assuming before he got fired) and left a host of unanswered maintenance requests behind. New super knows what he's doing BUT - you actually have to get him to do the work. In the meantime, my intercom remains broken; my bathroom ceiling that leaked is now turning yellow; my alleged second bedroom has water dripping from the walls and ceilings to the point that the paint is peeling, mold is growing, and water is running on the hardwood floors; and I'm enjoying 10 minutes of heat and an hour of none.

As someone else pointed out, most of your salary in NYC is going to pay to keep a roof over your head. The least you should get is a roof that doesn't leak and doesn't have plaster/paint falling off. And it's not like my salary is supplemented by any government agency - in fact, I enjoy how much the gubmint TAKES out of my paycheck every time for the supplementing of those agencies. But I shouldn't have to pay an arm, leg, and sacrifice a baby just to get a decent, safe, and clean place to live. And I'd expect that an agency that wants their consumers to be happy and not continuously file complaints would address issues that affect not just those consumers, but the quality of their damn apartments and the potential to make EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE REPAIRS IF THE CURRENT PROBLEMS AREN'T ADDRESSED.

But hey! They've made it easy for you to pay your rent now! God forbid if I can't continue to pay rent for a 2-bedroom apartment where I can only use one of the bedrooms. So much for having guests or parents stay with me.

You're supposed to do your research when looking at apartments. and I thought I had when I signed my lease six months ago. I could forgive the repairs in progress in the building continuing from Hurricane Sandy damage. But in NYC, it's always "buyer beware" with everything, and that includes finding housing. Alas, I really should have done even more, such as going here: hpdonline.hpdnyc.org/HPD…

The good things about the building are that it's in a quiet and safe neighborhood and that it's easy to get to the subway station. And the super actually does know what he's doing - when you can get him. But if you can afford better, look elsewhere. Read more
