What a lovely idea, I almost feel intimidated offering suggestions. For a classic timeless piece you can’t go wrong with a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso. If you are thinking of getting the back engraved the “reversible” element of the watch will mean your daughter will be able to see it whenever she wants rather than just when the watch is taken off. If that isn't entirely to your taste, then maybe the latest addition to the IWC family might be another option. The Portofino Midsize collection comes in at a slightly smaller 37mm making it ideal for delicate, female wrists. This basic model is the epitome of sophistication and the steel caseback means you can still give it that personal touch.  The final option is the Hermes Arceau. Again, it offers that "classic with a twist" style – the brown leather strap is very timeless but the italicised Arabic numerals stop this from being boring. At 41mm, it might seem a bit of a bold choice but it is a watch she will certainly be able to grow into. And by the time that happens, boyfriend watches will probably be back in as well. 
I love all those beautiful jewellery watches, particularly the hidden ones that were all the rage in the 1920s and 1930s. Are there any affordable jewellery watches or do they just not exist?The more expensive selection from Chanel, Chopard and Graff (l-r) Unfortunately jewellery watches, by their very nature, are not things that can be made at affordable prices. They are showcases for the best that house can produce in terms of stone quality and setting skills. When you consider some of the work that goes into jewellery watches from maisons such as Piaget. Graff. Breguet. Chanel or Chopard. there is just no way they can be as spectacular and yet sell for what people would term a "reasonable price". However, all is not lost. While these watches will fetch tens or hundreds of thousands, by going vintage, you may be able to find something that maybe isn't as spectacular, in terms of design, but that has still been made using beautiful stones and some pretty amazing stone-setting skills.
