Top Neighborhoods

Kingwood is one of Houston's most rapidly flourishing suburbs. The Kingwood community, located east of Highway 59 and north of Humble, is described as "the livable forest." A master-planned community, Kingwood features "Greenbelts," and those living in the area rave about them because they provide leisure activities, as well as scenic, wooded vistas by which residents can travel throughout the community. In recent years, several national retailers have moved stores to Kingwood, either within the Town Center or Kingwood Commons, thus boosting Kingwood's stock among Houston's suburbs. The area is home to four golf courses, including the Kingwood Country Club, which also features 26 tennis courts and numerous dining options and is frequently described as a "social focal point of the community".

Downtown remains the center of most city businesses and government offices, but is also a thriving cultural and social hub for all ages. Houston has a renowned arts program, the crown jewel of which is the Houston Grand Opera. The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts is home to excellent Broadway shows and acoustic concerts. The downtown area features Minute Maid Park and the Toyota Center, the homes of the Astros and Rockets, respectively. George R. Brown Convention Center sits adjacent to Minute Maid Park, and frequently hosts large-scale gatherings, including the ‘NFL Experience' exhibit last January for Super Bowl 38, which attracted thousands of sports fans. Downtown living consists primarily of lofts and apartments. Although somewhat expensive, the staggering number of opportunities can make the price seem worthwhile.

The Heights having recently experienced a renaissance of sorts is an eclectic artsy community. The main thoroughfares are lined with unique dining options like King Biscuit (a converted gas station), antique shops, rustic looking homes and food and vegetable stands. Home prices for rent or purchase are on the rise because of the recent resurgence of business and activity. The Heights has a tremendous neighborhood sprit not seen in other areas of the city. It's typified by such events as "Lights in the Heights" during the Christmas season, that draws hundreds from all over the city.

Pearland is referred to by residents as the place where "town and country meet". Located adjacent to Highway 288 on the south side of Beltway 8, Pearland is still largely undeveloped, but offers a short 15 minute commute into Houston. Pearland's promotional motto is "Come for a Visit, and Stay for a Lifetime" and it seems to be working since Pearland has experienced 200 percent growth in less than ten years. The area offers multiple outdoor venues such as golf courses, soccer fields and swimming pools, and seven local parks. Pearland is an attractive option for new Houston residents. In addition to having the shortest commute of most major Houston suburbs, the area is arguably the fastest-growing outlying region of America's fourth-largest city.

Medical Center is the home of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, one of America's foremost treatment and research institutions. In recent years, Houston's Medical Center has consistently gained national recognition. In addition to M. D. Anderson, the Medical Center also contains top ranked Baylor School of Medicine, Ben Taub Hospital, and Texas Children's Hospital, a nationally acclaimed pediatrics medical and research center. With a new light rail system winding throughout the area, access to the region is very easy. There are a variety of dining options located in the area and lots of foot traffic. A large array of apartment complexes and single family homes make Medical center a quaint community all its own.

Museum District located at the southern end of Montrose Boulevard is a tree-lined street with a gorgeous fountain situated on a grassy island directly ahead. Winding that circle, you find the Museum of Natural Sciences to your left, nationally renowned Rice University to your right, and straight ahead is Hermann Park, considered one of the most gorgeous outdoor spots in Space City. The Museum District is a popular warm-weather destination, as tourists and locals alike stroll from the Museum of Fine Arts to the acclaimed Children's Museum. The Museum district also offers the Houston Zoo, an 18 hole public golf course, and a kid friendly train that winds through the entirety of the park. With so many amenities and so much to offer, rent in the Museum District can be decidedly high. But in exchange for the higher prices, you get one of the safest neighborhoods in Houston.
