Seattle Apartments for Rent on MyNewPlace - Seattle, WA

The University of Washington is often called U Dub or just the U, and is located in a scenic section of Seattle. With a campus sitting along the Portage and Union Bays and views of both the Cascades and the Olympic Mountain ranges, it is one of the most scenic schools anywhere. Your University of Washington apartment will be a walkable extension to campus life. University Way is known as 'the Ave' and you'll quickly find that is the main area for living.

The area around the campus is a vibrant mix of ethnic, student and upscale places for drinking, dining and shopping. On 'the Ave', you'll find mostly student places and many chain places. Grabbing a late night meal is easy at Memo's Mexican where you can eat late for low prices. Get great dogs and subs at Shultzy's too. Combine good meals and some nightlife at the College Inn Pub, Earl's on the Ave with its strongest drinks in town, or have a bigger night out with the bands at Liquid Lounge at EMP. Seattle is a great party town and much of it will be in the neighborhood near your University of Washington apartment.

As a Husky, you'll not only get a great education but you'll have a lot of fun getting it.

Founded in Oregon by Methodists, Seattle Pacific University has grown out of its humble, stilted beginnings to be one of the most respected institutions of the liberal arts and sciences in Washington. It offers just over a hundred undergraduate major and minors, and 15 post graduate degrees.

Seattle is well known worldwide as the birthplace of grunge, with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains all coming out of the city. Seattle was the birthplace of Jimi Hendrix and is the final resting place of Brandon Lee and Bruce Lee.

It is also one of the US's most educated areas (25% have at least a bachelor's degree), as well as one of the richest areas in the country. Seattle was ranked 17th out of 363 metro areas in the States based on per capita income.

Unsurprisingly, many of the city's annual events are music based, with an annual summer blues festival, the Slack Keys Festival, Artopia, the Bainsbridge Island Bluegrass Festival, and South Lake Block Party in town throughout the year.

Seattle as a whole is very walkable. And the area around Seattle Pacific University is ranked close to a walker's paradise, with a score of 82 out of 100. Bookstores, grocery stores and restaurants are your closest facilities to school, and if you can manage a quarter mile walk you'll find coffee shops, bars, parks, clothing and fitness centers within easy reach.

Seattle Pacific University is located in the North Queen Anne neighborhood, close to Fremont, Wallingford, Lake Union and Interbay. Fremont, Wallingford and North Queen Anne offer some great housing options. Fremont is a little busier and more population dense, but offers cheaper housing than other neighborhoods do.

Choose Queen Anne, Westlake or Broadway if you prefer to be close to the center of town, but still in an apartment convenient to school.

Seattle apartments are mostly clustered around the central business area, with the outer districts giving way to freestanding houses. The Seattle CBD and suburbs, with their high median annual income, are also quite expensive places for rentals compared with other cities.

You'll be looking at$500 to $700 per month for a bottom of the range apartment rental, and even studio apartments can cost upwards of $850 per month. A bonus is that there are several apartment options within only a few mile radius of your school, though.

Seattle University is quite a small school by nationwide standards, but is consistently ranked in the top schools that offer a full range of degree programs. The Jesuit-run school has separate colleges for Arts and Sciences, Law, Nursing and Humanities and Teaching.

Seattle is the largest city in the Pacific Northwest, and has a little-known nickname (outside the city itself) of The Emerald City. However obscure, the name is appropriate. The streets are filled with evergreens, and an extremely rainy climate means that lush gardens thrive. Urban attractions and outdoor recreation (as long as you rug up!), are said to be perfectly blended here.

Seattle is considered one of the most walkable cities in the world, and the area around Seattle U is no exception. It scores 95 out of 100 for walkability. and the only negative aspect to that is the fact that there are more rain days here than any other major city in the country!

Why not take advantage of Seattle's walkability and look for an apartment rental close to school? You'll be looking at the Downtown, Madrona, Capitol Hill and Stevens neighborhoods to be within easy reach of Seattle U. The Downtown area is of course busiest, being closest to the Central Business District - and also has a strange imbalance of males to females, with a 60-40 ratio! Look to Capitol Hill and Stevens for best affordability and lower living density.

For quite a large city (the Northwest's largest!), Seattle housing and rental prices are quite affordable. Even students have quite a range of apartments to choose from, with prices starting at $550 per month, and the average price close to $750 per month.

Despite poor weather, festivals are popular in Seattle. The Seattle Pride Festival and Gay Pride Parade, the International Film Festival and a Kids Festival are all extremely popular. Club Motor, Chop Suey and the Cuff Complex are also host to some big nights out.

You can also make dining more of an event than an everyday occurrence, with ideas like the cooking courses on offer at Poppy Restaurant, among others, and the Dine with your Dog brunch!
