Quad-City Times  At its heart, Mother’s Day is a holiday of not just procreation, but creation, of not just a being, but a life, a beautiful artwork. And so it was that human tapestry that was celebrated in the midst of a compendium of creations Sunday, as hundreds of mothers, children and other fans of creative works enjoyed Davenport’s annual Beaux Arts Fair outside the Figge Museum.

Quad-City Times  The greening of downtown Davenport begins Saturday. The Downtown Davenport Partnership, a division of the Quad-Cities Chamber of Commerce, has arranged for the usual hanging flower baskets to be up by midafternoon.

    Nothing says summer is near like the arrival of iconic flower baskets in downtown Davenport on Mother’s Day weekend.  The Downtown Davenport Partnership (DDP) is proud to announce there will be over 600 flower baskets lining the downtown streets, ensuring the community looks its best for the summer festival season.  Filled with supertunias, the baskets will be in full bloom come July, with colors of purple, pink, and red.

    “This year, more flowers and plants will line 2 nd Street providing more light and color to the downtown,” Manager of Operations for the DDP, Ryan Jantzi, explained.

    A Ribbon Cutting celebrating the arrival of the flower baskets will be held on Saturday, May 9. at 11:00 a.m. on the Figge Art Museum Plaza (225 W. 2 nd Street).   The event will also serve to usher in Mother’s Day weekend downtown highlighted by the Beaux Arts Fair and the Freight House Farmers Market.

    DDP is responsible for purchasing and maintaining the flowers throughout downtown.  The staff from The Green Thumbers, who initially grow the flowers, will hang the highly anticipated baskets throughout the weekend.

    Beaux Arts Fair

    The annual Beaux Arts Fair takes place on the Figge Plaza 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 10. Artisans from 7 states in varied media including, pottery, stained glass, copper, and brass garden art will have works for sale.  With free admission, the fair is the perfect place to take Mom for her special day. www.beauxartsfair .

    Freight House Farmers Market

    The Freight House Farmers Market will be buzzing with spring activity on Saturday, May 9, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sunday, May 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Bring Mom down to stroll through plentiful local vendors providing fresh baked goods, fresh produce, and local meats, cheeses, and sweets. www.freighthousefarmersmarket

    Quad-City Times-  Downtown Davenport continues to be a popular place to call home.

    Between 1,600 and 1,700 people already live in more than 1,100 units, and that number continues to grow, said Kyle Carter, executive director of the Downtown Davenport Partnership.
