Corpus Christi is a coastal city in Texas that’s been nicknamed The Sparkling City by the Sea. Named in honor of the Blessed Sacrament (the Eucharist) by the Spanish settlement that originally lived here, Corpus Christi has grown to become the eighth largest city in the state with a vibrant economy and a high-quality of life. Primarily comprised of single family detached housing, there are still many apartment rentals to be found in the city, and with over 35% of the city’s residents also renters, those relocating here will have plenty of different types of apartment rentals to choose from.

Corpus Christi enjoys a strong economy and traditionally has one of the country’s lowest unemployment rates. The local economy is made up of professional services, government, wholesale and retail trades and tourism. The city’s primary industry is oil and petrochemicals due largely to the fact that the city has the deepest inshore port on the Gulf of Mexico. There are two military installations in Corpus Christi, the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi and the Corpus Christi Army Depot.

The climate of Corpus Christi is considered humid subtropical, which produces very hot summer daytime temperatures and very mild winter nights. It’s not uncommon for summer temperatures to exceed 90 degrees while nighttime lows in the winter rarely drop below 50 degrees. While it is considered a humid subtropical climate, the city receives less precipitation than most other Gulf Coast regions.

Thanks to the city’s attractive tourism trade, there is plenty to see and do when you rent an apartment in Corpus Christi. The North Beach is attractive to those who want to enjoy the surf, sand and sun, and the USS Lexington floating museum and Texas State Aquarium are also located in North Beach as well.

Corpus Christi maintains its own museum district. This is where you can find the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History, the Museum of Asian Cultures, the South Texas Institute for the Arts and Heritage Park, a neighborhood collection of older, restored houses. One of the oldest continually operating community theaters in the state, the Harbor Playhouse Theatre, can also be found here.

Downtown is where you can find the Texas Surf Museum and the K Space Contemporary art museum.

For more natural scenery, you can visit the Corpus Christi Botanical Gardens and Nature Center or enjoy bird watching at the Hans and Pat Suter Wildlife Refuge. There are also an abundance of parks found east of the city around Padre Island and Mustang Island.

Corpus Christi has a very diverse population of mixed ethnicities and income levels. Therefore, the city has apartment rentals suitable for a wide range of needs. The city’s largest neighborhood, Tierra Grande, is also where you can find some of the more affordable apartments in Corpus Christi. Venturing east along Yorktown Boulevard, the rental rates start to climb while the easternmost part of the city found right along the coast has some of the higher rent rates in the area, as can be expected by the spectacular view of the Gulf of Mexico.

Turning back west, the city has a large number of smaller neighborhoods of varying rental rates, like those found in Gardendale, along Padre Island Drive and up into the City Center and North Beach.

Traditionally, Corpus Christi rental rates are moderately priced when compared with national averages, but when compared with the state’s average, they can be slightly higher in most neighborhoods.
