Oak Park Apartments - Apartments - Oak Park, IL - Reviews - Photos - Yelp

I had a great experience with the leasing agent, Nick. He was very helpful and showed us all of the apartments we were interested in. We were approved to lease the apartment within a few days. However, there were several things about the apartment that I specifically asked to be fixed before I moved in, such as refinishing the (very scratched) wood floors. When we came in on moving day, that wasn t done, and they said it couldn t be done once we moved all of our furniture in. It frustrated me that that wasn t done, especially since the apartment had been empty for a month before we moved in. They did an extremely sloppy paint job, also, and painted over outlet covers. I ve spent quite a bit of time scraping paint off of the shower tiles and the floor.

Some other negatives are that there are only four washing machines for the whole building, and you have to walk outside down the alley to access the laundry room. It s extremely inconvenient. Like other people have mentioned, there is not a garbage disposal or a bathroom fan.

What a bizarre experience!

First, it took two days for them to return my call (a gentleman walked in while I was waiting and had a similar complaint).

You walk into an office, fill in a sign-in sheet, they hand you a couple listings and tell you to sit. That s about as helpful as it got. I had to chase the receptionist down to ask more questions, in the process finding out that their own website is not updated and included numerous properties which were no longer available. There were no listings of square footage anywhere to help me pick out what I wanted to see, so I had to keep cross-referencing their sheet with their website so I didn t end up stuck looking at closets.

Then I got paired up with a couple I was told were looking at apartments in my price range . Well there were only two price ranges on my sheet so that doesn t narrow it down very much. Turned out they were looking at much smaller apartments so I got dragged around a bunch of smaller places that wouldn t interest me. They didn t interest them, either, truth be told! We went through a half-dozen units before we saw anything either of us would consider. Most of the places we saw were in various states of repair, even though it s only about 12 days until the apartments are supposed to be available. One apartment that I got dragged to still had a tenant living in it, and the place was an absolute pig sty! There was stuff EVERYWHERE.

About halfway through another group sort of latched on to ours and we had 7 or 8 people all looking at the same apartments, which felt sort of competitive to me.

At the end, the last apartment we saw was interesting so I started asking questions about it, as did the group that joined us. The agent was unable to show the other group the laundry room because he was running late (not sure for what? Isn t this his job?) I also tried to ask him about parking permits and he gave me a quarterly range so ridiculous I figured it couldn t be true. It was. Lot parking is almost $1,000/yr per car! Street parking is nearly $500! To park on the street. For reference, permits in Chicago only cost $25/yr.

The agent knew I had a car and knew I wasn t from Oak Park. The fact that he didn t bring this up right away really turns me off since that is a MAJOR expense!

Also because we were in groups too large to fit in the car we had to drive our own cars to each unit which was very disorganized.

I m glad I didn t fall in love with any of the apartments I saw because I wouldn t want to have to deal with them as landlords, especially after reading the other reviews and their associated responses. I just really wish I hadn t wasted my time with them!
