The Lake Washington Strawberry Festival, which takes place in late June, is a revitalization of an old Bellevue tradition, when the region was known for it's strawberry farming. According to local legend, in 1925, Mrs. Charles W. Bovee of Bellevue had a dream that the city would hold a festival that would bring a large number of visitors and great recognition to her home town.

To make this dream into a reality, the Strawberry Festival Committee, made up of five men and five women, raised $40 in to finance the first ever festival in June of that year. The four-day event attracted 3,000 visitors and the front page of the Lake Washington Reflector the next day said that the festival left visitors "with the impression that here was a beautiful town and a fruitful district settled by a courteous, hospitable people."

Today, Bellevue apartment residents who attend the festival can visit the various vendors, participate in games and contests ranging from coloring contests to miniature golf and attend an auto show, which features exceptional and vintage vehicles.
