#Often us real estate types tend to forget that the real estate vernacular (I’ve always wanted to use ‘vernacular’ in a blog post) we are so accustomed to might be unfamiliar to many who don’t deal with real estate on a daily basis.

It started out with a lady who was in Lagos, Nigeria, wanting to fall in love with me, says Douglas (not his real name).

Douglas lives in a mid-sized city in eastern Canada.

He's in his late 60s, divorced, suffers from a host of health problems, including anxiety and depression, for which he is on medication.

I was very vulnerable, he says. That's an understatement.

The scammers' demands

Douglas gave the woman money for airfare, then for medical expenses, then to replace what she said was taken in a robbery.

Then someone else called and told Douglas his computer was infected. So he gave them money to fix it.

Then someone else called and told him they would get his money back, for a fee. So he sent them the fee.

We traveled with a tour group for a week and were both sick and exhausted. The first thing we both did upon settling into our room was take a nap. This place is quiet, peaceful, and felt like home from the moment we arrived. It was the perfect place to recover. No pressure. In the evening we fixed a little supper in the kitchen and cleaned up. Loved being able to make a cup of tea any time I wanted.

The ladies who prepared our breakfast turned out to be delightful people; They helped us decide on where to go for our independent excursions, where to go shop and to understand some of the local history.

There is a pig. It is huge. We were advised to not feed the pig as it can become quite aggressive about food. We did not feed the pig.

Superb walking path through the valley along the little river. Scenic, low key and relaxing. I not only recommend it, I would go back in a New York minute.
