Eating Out in Rome

The gastronomy in Rome is very varied. Among the most typical cuisine are “pasta alla matriciana” (tomato, pecorino cheese and bacon), and “pasta a la carbonara” (eggs, bacon, pepper and parmesan cheese). A typical meat dish is “saltimbocca alla romana”, rolled veal with prosciutto and sage, lamb is also quite popular in Roman cooking. Of course, pizza can be found throughout the city as well as many salads.

Monuments in Rome

In a city where you pass Roman monuments, monumental fountains and Barroque churches with every step it is difficult to narrow down what you must see. But we recommend you visit the following, the Colosseum, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. Other important monuments are Piazza di Spagna, Roman Forum and the Victor Emanuel II monument. No visit to Rome would be complete without visiting saint Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican museums.

Shopping in Rome

In the Italian capital you can find the latest designs around Piazza di Spagna, Via dei Condotti and the Via Borgogona. If you want to buy some food, a bottle of limoncello, olive oil, wines, pasta we recommend visiting the Campo dei Fiori or other quality food stores. Rome is also an excellent place to buy antiques.

Rome with Children

The children will love a visit to the Colosseum where their imagination can run wild with stories of gladiators and chariot races. After happily slurping away on innumerable gelatos the children can throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain, place their hand into the Bocca della Verita and discover the passages and interior patios of Sant Angelo Castle. The Villa Borghese Park is another great place to visit with children; there are row boats, a small train, playgrounds and a zoo. Last but not least you can rent a bicycle and ride along the Via Appia and go under ground and visit the catacombs.

Nightlife in Rome

There are lots of places to go out in Rome. In the historic centre of Rome, the Piazza Navona and the Campo de’Fiori there are lots of bars where you can enjoy a quiet drink. Trastevere is also another great place to go out for dinner and drinks. If you want to keep the party going until dawn, the majority of nightclubs are in the Testacio and Ostiense areas.
