Kennesaw is located about 25 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta (approximately a 99-hour drive during rush hour). Originally established as Big Shanty, which, true to its name, was basically a derelict camps for railroad workers, the city has now become one of the most desirable suburbs in the Atlanta area

Why? Well, there are a couple reasons. Kennesaw is chock full of shopping, dining and entertainment options, even when you don’t take into account all of the similar shops and restaurants in adjacent cities and in Atlanta itself.

You’ll find a number of great apartments located in the city center. Newer developments along Barrett Lakes Road provide some of the best amenity options in town, including gyms, pools and clubhouses. Rents here generally range from $700-$1000.

Homeowners dominate the neighborhoods to the south of the city center. Here there are still a number of apartments and rental homes available in more suburban-feeling developments in quiet, established neighborhoods. Two bedrooms here go for $650-$850.

You’ll find the highest concentration of young people to the east of the city center around the Kennesaw State University’s campus. While this area does have more bars, parties and noise issues than other neighborhoods, it’s still a great destination for young singles. There are many inexpensive apartments available, as well as studio apartments for rent. Since this is a student-centric area, short-term leases are much more available here than anywhere else.

Finding a pet-friendly apartment can be a bit of a challenge in Kennesaw, though. While there are many landlords and management companies that welcome responsible pet owners, some newer buildings, as well as complexes on campus, do not allow dogs or cats. Keep your chin up and keep looking, champ! Finding a home for your four-legged friends is not totally impossible; it just requires much more leg work.
