I so wish the web was there when we were struggling to make ends meet in college and university. It was a constant battle of the conscience between spending on the date, or ‘squandering’ money on things like books and other learning objects. The library wasn’t much help as it often resembled the California gold rush with ten heads competing for one book.

The reason for my ire is that we didn’t have websites which told us where to find (rent or buy) cheap college textbooks. But today’s generation just has to type in a URL and hey presto, there are more than a dozen sites plying cheap textbooks for sale or rent.

It’s getting crowded at the top of Manhattan’s apartment market.

As condo developers chase billion-dollar paydays through the construction of luxury dwellings, the cranes dotting the city are sparking fears of a supply glut.

Builders are plowing ahead with scores of condominiums priced above $20 million in skinny glass towers throughout Manhattan.

One building, the 66-story tower at 220 Central Park South, is listing more than 60 apartments above $20 million, according to filings made with the New York attorney general’s office. By comparison, in 2008, just 29 new condos sold for $20 million or more across all of Manhattan, according to appraisal firm Miller Samuel.

I am a 25yr old mature sole traveller not a teenager! hence s no way i could have held a party. I still have the call details on my phone, I call around midnight(which doesn t tally with the report of the management) and a lady had to drive over to the apartment I stayed. Three years ago, Marion Campbell found her dream apartment on Craigslist: a Lincoln Park two-bedroom in a walk-up brownstone. She called the listed leasing agency and set up an appointment to view it on a Saturday.

Campbell, now 27, showed up at 8am at the address her agent gave her and was surprised to find the agent waiting with a car. The apartment Campbell wanted to see wasn t ready, the agent said, but they could look at other options while they waited for their showing.

I had a bad feeling about it, Campbell says. You know when you re about to get duped. I was baited by the place I wanted to see.

SAN ANTONIO - Two UTSA students were shot Sunday morning as they left an apartment complex in the 6000 block of UTSA Boulevard.

According to police, the two victims were driving out of the Avalon Place Apartments when a gunman opened fire. One student was shot in the arm, the other was shot in the midsection.

The victims drove on to the UTSA campus to seek help and were transported to the hospital. The driver was shot in the arm. The passenger was in critical condition after being shot in the midsection.

An alternating-tread staircase doubles as storage cupboards in this tiny Paris apartment by French architects Schemaa (+ slideshow).

Schemaa had to maximise space in the small apartment, so combined the wooden staircase with storage cabinets and drawers.

Cupboards of different heights are concealed by doors measuring the same width as the stair treads.

The feature is located inside a room that acts as both dining and living areas, opposite kitchen units fronted with the same wood.

More shelves are positioned at the bottom of the staircase, creating almost a full wall of storage to keep the room free of clutter.

The dining table can be dismantled so its legs mount onto hooks on the wall and the surface can be mounted up between the windows.

This was our first work and pleasure trip to Chennai. The hotel is located in T Nagar which as per our experience is quite a convenient place to live in. it is approximately 30 - 40 minutes from the airport but well connected by public transport. It is on the road but the noise does not filter into the room.

The hotel is on the Bazullah Road which is a one way road so one might have to take some longer turns if one is going by car but if you decide to walk most of the places are nearby. There are quite a few restaurants within walking distance from the hotel.

The hotel provides accommodation but there was no in-house restaurant or tea and coffee service. As per their website they do have rooms with a small kitchenette but our room was not one of them.

Some of the fake reviews that have poured in for the Windermere Cay apartment complex note that the pool looks nice. Seems accurate.

A Florida apartment complex is taking heat on review sites after its overreaching "Social Media Addendum" was published yesterday by Ars Technica.

Until yesterday, the Windermere Cay Apartments near Orlando, Florida, had only two Yelp reviews, one of which had been shunted by Yelp's filter into the "not recommended" area.

Now the complex has more than 140 reviews. with 77 recommended reviews and 67 reviews that aren't recommended. Aug. 23 (Bloomberg) -- American Homes 4 Rent yesterday fired a group of workers, with a focus on acquisition and construction staff, after the housing landlord reported a fiscal second-quarter loss, according to a person with knowledge of the terminations.

The company, owner of almost 20,000 single-family homes, has cut about 15 percent of its workforce this year, including an earlier round of terminations before its initial public offering last month, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the information is private. The Malibu, California-based company, which raised $705.9 million in the IPO, had a net loss of $14 million, or 15 cents a share, on revenue of $18.1 million in the quarter ended June 30, according to a statement this week.
