#Residents not surprised by shooting of 2 UTSA students SAN ANTONIO - Two UTSA students were shot Sunday morning as they left an apartment complex in the 6000 block of UTSA Boulevard. RELATED CONTENTAccording to police, the two victims were driving out of the Avalon Place Apartments when a gunman opened fire. One student was shot in the arm, the other was shot in the midsection. The victims drove on to the UTSA campus to seek help and were transported to the hospital. The driver was shot in the arm. The passenger was in critical condition after being shot in the midsection. News of the shooting quickly spread among students living in a series of apartment complexes in the 6000 block of UTSA Boulevard. (We're) not shocked, not at all, said Tyler Rowe. Mostly everyone is like, 'Whoa. Stuff really does happen here.' Christian Dabdoub, who recently moved to the area, received a text message from the university alerting him to the shooting. A little surprising that you hear about shootings at apartment complexes that aren't too far from me, he said. Over the last few years, the area has gained a notorious reputation. In 2012, a resident was robbed at gunpoint. In 2013, a carjacking left an 18-year-old dead. That same year, in the same area, there was a home invasion. Another student had his car riddled with gunfire in 2013 as well. Last year two women were held against their will by a gunman. That incident also happened at the Avalon Place Apartments. For years residents have complained about the lack of police presence in the area and porous security gates. The thing that concerns me is that the people that can just do things like that, there's not really anything to stop them from doing it again, said Rowe. Anybody can get in if they want to. Though he personally does not fear for his safety, Dabdoub admits that the shooting does raise some concerns. It's a little unsettling, definitely want to lock your doors after that just be careful, be wary, he said. So far no suspects have been arrested. Copyright 2015 by KSAT - All rights reserved.
