Wow what a weekend at the Sotavento!

This is a vibrant, lively hotel so if you are looking for quiet relaxation then this is defiantly NOT for you

Seven of us stayed at Sotavento for a hen weekend. We arrived after midnight and warmly welcomed by receptionist who spoke perfect fluent English. Checking-in was quick although an 80euro deposit is required at that time per room and in cash only, no cards accepted - (returnable at the time of checking out). Should you require a safety deposit box then a charge of 3.50euro per day (one safe was sufficient for seven people). Our apartment was 218 with a view of the pool, should you wish to retire for a siesta in the afternoon then a pool front room is not for you because a DJ plays music around the pool from 10am till 9pm.

Our rooms were fantastic, clean, modern and spacious (exactly as seen in photos) we were all very impressed. Only request is when a room has 5 girls sharing then a few more coat hangers are required. Kitchen area was equipped with kettle toaster and oven, fridge, plastic cups, mugs (for tea/coffee) and basic utensils (including bottle opener).

Pool area was nice and clean, limited sun beds and pool area starts to fill up from 9am therefore towel reserve early!

The Sotavento is located at the top of a very steep hill as mentioned in nearly every review I have read. The location is perfect it is minutes from the beach and bars. We went out to the bars nearly every night but do be prepared to be constantly hounded by PR’s trying to get you into their pubs.

We didn’t eat in the hotel although food was reasonably priced (breakfast was from 2.90euros).

We ate in a different restaurant each night and each one was perfection, the food was 10/10. I can highly recommend Chi Chi’s Tex Mex a Chinese restaurant where the set menu was 5.25euro (both located at the bottom of the steep hill leading up to the Sotavento), The Boat Yard Crusoe’s Restaurant (both located on the seafront).

We went to the Pirate show and Western water park (go on to the Western website there is a printable voucher for 2euros off). The Pirate Show offers a late night adult version as well as a family show. The late night one advertises starting at 10.30pm but the show we went to didn’t start till 11.15pm…..Note: Food is not included in the price at the adult show.

The Sotavento offers a late check-out for (usually midday) but for 30euros you can keep your room till 18:00hrs or 40euros 22:00hrs.

We had the most fantastic time; a holiday is what you make it. Highly recommend The Sotavento and will be returning again in 2013.
