#Ibiza Apartments - Book Villas - Accommodation

The beautiful island of Ibiza is a stunning Spanish holiday destination with much to offer tourists and visitors. Ibiza is one of the Balearic Islands which also include well-loved islands such Majorca and Menorca. Ibiza Town is steeped in history and its Old Town is a real treat to walk around. Known as the ‘White Island’ due to the large amount of white houses, Ibiza is much more than the clubbing destination it has become known for in recent years. It has long been a family destination as well as a clubbers paradise, and this is indicated in the number of Villa rentals that occur throughout the year in Ibiza. The island has transformed a great deal in the last 20 years and currently hosts 2.8 million tourists a year. Unsurprisingly, there is a vast amount of hotels and hostels on Ibiza, from luxury hotel accommodation to basic apartments suited for those interested in spending most of their time on the beach and in the clubs. There are so many hotels in fact, that the government introduced a law in 2007 stating that all new hotels had to be built to a 5-star standard in an effort to discourage developers building cheap hotel accommodation. Wimdu offer private accommodation rentals on Ibiza that is cheaper and more personal than staying in a hotel. Shared apartments, private apartment rentals and villas on Ibiza give you a more authentic experience of life on the island and also helps the island in their battle against over-development. By opting to take accommodation owned by locals you are also helping to keep money generated through tourism in the hands of small local business and individuals.

Fun Facts!

  • When Ibiza Town was founded in 654bc it was called Ibossim!
  • The soil on Ibiza is orange coloured due to the tanine in the pine needles from the island’s many pine trees.
  • Ibiza has no rivers or water as such – the last river on the island dried up in the 70s!
  • Ibiza Town is a beautiful town and it is steeped in over 2,500 years of history. The Old Town is particularly full of old buildings and structures.

Things to Do and See

There’s plenty to do and do on the island of Ibiza. Of course the nightlife on the island plays a big part in the reason why people visit, but there’s much more to see and do than just go out! We recommend going mountain biking. In the summer of 2010, Ibiza launched 13 all-terrain bike routes and ten road routes at various locations around the island. These routes allow you to see some of the beautiful scenery on the island easily. All routes are colour coded and signposted. Ibiza has plenty of cultural history too and not just in the Old Town. At the ancient town of Dalt Vila. which overlooks the Port of Ibiza, you’ll find some of the Mediterranean’s oldest structures. Inside the walls of Dalt Vila there is a castle, bishop’s palace, a cathedral and several good museums. This area is popular with couples and families, and Wimdu is able to offer you a wide range of villas and rental apartments in Dalt Vila.Yoga on the beach is a popular past time and a great way to detox after a night of partying! Plenty of yoga lessons take place in solitary coves and dunes and afterwards you’re able to swim in the sea – perfect! Ibiza is also famous for its hippy markets which date back to when alternative thinkers originally came to live on the island. You’ll find lots of interesting trinkets, clothing and jewelry at the markets which can be found in the Old Town.

Ibiza Nightlife

Arguably the greatest attraction of Ibiza is the nightlife. The fun never ceases on the island and you’ll find world class clubs, trendy restaurants and enough beach bars to keep you occupied for a long time! Most nightlife is centered around the Port of Ibiza (Puerto de Ibiza) and the West End of San Antonio. These are the towns you should look to find your Ibiza apartment or villa if you are here to party! Wimdu offers large apartments and spacious villas to cater for any group size. There are plenty of inexpensive bars around the Port of Ibiza that are worth beginning your night in. There are many great clubs on the island, the top 5 being Amnesia. Pacha. Space. Ushuaia and Privilege. The clubbing season is marked by huge opening and closing parties and the club Space in particular has a big opening party. The clubbing season begins at the end of May and continues until the end of August or beginning of September. Wimdu recommends you visit Café del Mar where you can enjoy chill-out music and an amazing sunset.

Where to Eat

Ibiza also has plenty of good restaurants and eating options too. There are also several Ibizan specialty dishes such as bullit de peix fish dish and borrida de ratjada, a delicious saffron potato dish. Ibiza has a famous dessert too – the flaó – which is cream tart containing fresh cheese, eggs and mint. We recommend you visit La Paloma restaurant which serves food containing vegetables grown in its own gardens. S’Illa des Bosc is another beautiful restaurant which overlooks the sheltered bay of Cala Conta.

Getting Around

Ibiza is a 2 and a half hour plane ride from many UK airports. Ibiza Airport is the airport serving Ibiza and the smaller island of Formentera and is located just over 4 miles southwest of Ibiza town. In the summer season buses from the airport into Ibiza Town run every 15 minutes. In the winter buses run every 30 minutes. The journey into town takes 15 minutes. Buses from the airport will also take you to the major resorts on the island and you’ll find it is straightforward to navigate around the island. The Old Town is easy to navigate by foot and you’ll find you get to know the place quite easily. The island is relatively small which allows you always to be in reach of your accommodation, although If you choose to take one of Wimdu's villas or apartments in Ibiza it’s a great idea to take a rental car and discover the whole island during your stay. The aforementioned Formentera island is a good place to go for a day trip. It’s also a fun island and plenty of boats connects the island with Ibiza. You can even ride in a boat that will play techno music whilst you travel! We hope we've given you a good overview of the possibilities open to you when you visit Ibiza!
