The most spectacular waterpark in Europe

In Southern Tenerife you’ll find Siam Park. regarded by many to be up there with the best water parks in Europe. The spectacular park cost 52 million euro to build and features an exotic Thai film on the many rides, pools, restaurants and buildings throughout the park. It’s the largest collection of Thai buildings outside of Thailand! There are adrenaline pumping slides, rock pools, sunbeds, wave machines and children’s pools. It’s a great family day out!

Natural Swimming Pools

In the old town of Puerto de la Cruz there are several natural salt water pools that are amazing to swim in that were designed by famous Canarian Manrique. Lago Martiánez contains 7 pools, tropical trees, Jacuzzi and also an underground dance hall! Tenerife’s year-round good weather means it’s always the right time to go for a swim!

Auditorio de Tenerife

Designed by Santiago Calatrava, the Auditorio de Tenerife has a Sydney Opera House feel to it and boasts excellent acoustics and comfortable seating. The Auditoria has been open since 1997 and has seen the likes of Spanish president Felipe de Borbon and Bill Clinton pass through its door. The amazing profile of the auditorium has come to represent not just Tenerife but the Canary Islands as a whole!

Amazing Landmarks

Tenerife has several interesting historical landmarks that are well worth checking out. The Basilica of Candelaria is a Roman Catholic basilica located in the town of Candelaria. It is dedicated to the Virgin of Candelaria and has origins in the 14th century. The interior of the basilica is beautiful and there are several impressive mural paintings located inside. Another religious building of interest is the Iglesia de la Concepción which is the only church in the Canary Islands to have 5 naves. The church was built on the remains of a chapel established by the Spanish Conquistadors when they landed on the coast!

Where to eat and drink

There are lots of great places to eat on the island of Tenerife and at very reasonable prices. International cuisines are plentiful and there are many restaurants with English style menus. Look out for menu del día. which allot of restaurants and bars serve, it’s a three course meal deal with a glass of wine or beer! You can’t get better value for it! Keep an eye out for Guachinches also, these are little stalls on the side of the road that serve delicious traditional local dishes the produce is fresh and local and there are very inexpensive. You will always have the option of cooking yourself with some local produce in your self-catering holiday apartment or villa.

Tenerife Nightlife

Tenerife has an amazing night life, which everyone can enjoy! The most popular area for clubs and bars is Playa de las Americas. here you can find three strips loaded with nightclubs, late-bars and a very fun atmosphere. Most places stay open all night - if you can last that long! Other towns on the island are also host to a great nightlife scene but they are a little more relaxed. If your accommodation is not located in Playa de las Americas, don’t worry – buses and taxis run frequently to this area and are relatively cheap.

Getting To and Around Tenerife

There are two ways to reach Tenerife – either by plane or by ferry. There are two airports on the island – Tenerife South near Los Cristianos and Tenerife North by La Laguna. Buses operate from the airport to the various towns on the island – check the timetables for more information. A weekly ferry operates between Cadiz on mainland Spain and Tenerife – it takes two days. Ferries also operate between the various Canary Islands such as Lanzarote and Gran Canaria. The best way to get around Tenerife is by car – you’ll make your own discoveries and have the freedom to go where you want! Although public transport is available also, buses run between towns frequently and taxis are plentiful, there are an efficient way to get you to and from your apartment or villa.
