Charlotte Center City (also known as Uptown) is the central area of Charlotte. The headquarters for the Fortune 500 companies Bank of America and Duke Energy are located here, as well as the East coast operations for Wells Fargo. Uptown is an active business district during the day, and a bustling nightlife spot in the evening. Uptown has some of Charlotte's finest restaurants and shops within its borders. Museums, bars, hotels, sporting venues, and restaurants are heavily concentrated in Uptown; with more hotels under construction. New museums such as the Mint Museum of Modern Art and the Bechtler Museum made their debut in Uptown in 2010. There are both public and private schools for families to choose from.

Dilworth is a neighborhood of Charlotte south of Uptown. The streets of Dilworth feature stately, mature oak trees, sidewalks, and houses with front porches. The homes are primarily bungalows, with the occasional Queen Anne, and some larger, two-story Colonial Revivals. East Boulevard, lined with shops, offices, restaurants and refurbished homes, serves as the main thoroughfare through the neighborhood. Carolinas Medical Center rests inside the boundaries of Dilworth. This 861bed teaching hospital is the region’s only Level 1 trauma center. Much of the neighborhood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Dilworth Historic District.

NoDa has come to be referred to as more than just a catchy name for the neighborhood, but more as a grassroot cause for promoting culture and the arts. NoDa has seen a boom in residential construction in multifamily housing in recent years. The neighborhood has become an entertainment district focused on bimonthly gallery crawls, restaurants and music venues.

In addition to being home to the mall, South Park is also a residential area and one of the largest business districts in Charlotte with approximately 40,000 employees.
